Career Advice for the Undecided

Calling all those who are having trouble deciding on what they want to do with their life!

If you have ever tried to take those career tests, or work with a career counselor to try and ascertain what you want to do with your career then I may have found some hope for you. For many of us who take these tests or seek out counsel from others regarding our career it is because we simply don't know what we want to do with our career. However, I came across an article in the San Francisco Chronicle that chronicles a new college graduate who found a job building Leogs all day long at a new Lego Park in San Diego. Now I played with Legos as a kid too but I don't think I would want to build them for a living, but that may just be me.

Jason Poland graduated from the University of Houston where he majored in English. Since he majored in English it is easy to understand what he landed a job with Leogs right? Anyway, he is very happy making $13/hour building Legos all day long.

If you build Legos for a living what do you think your next career move will be after this job? Also, what would your title be in a position like this? If you had the chance would you take an off the wall job right out of college to try and give yourself more time to determine what you want your career to look like? I don't think it is a bad idea as long as you are trying to keep the big picture in mind because every job you take will build off of the other one. The people you meet, the skills you learn, will all determine your next move.

For everyone who is having trouble determining your first career move or your next career move I would say that this article is a clear indication that we all have hope in realizing what we really want to do for a living. If this guy can find a job building Legos for a living any of us can find out what we really want to do and get paid for it.
