An Introduction To Marriage

Many people who choose to live their life by themselves experience tremendous loneliness. Humans are social animals and it is a generic need to be a part of society, bond and marry. Marriage is a commitment where couples share the events in their partner's life until separation. Apart from its many psychological aspects, marriage is a legal agreement that allows couples to live together, engage in sexual activity, coexist, share and benefit from mutual income and property and procreate.

In ancient times, the act of marriage was different from what it is today. People did not have the liberty to choose a partner or dissolve a marriage in case of incompatibility or mutual problems. Marriage was the act that permitted the birth of children and protected bloodlines so each family could produce an heir who inherited family property. Though most customs and traditions have been carried forward, the ideology behind marriage has changed. The modern society is more liberal and allows couples to be married for love and the desire to live their lives with each other.

People celebrate marriage in different ways depending upon the religion, culture and place of origin and local customs. Different religious communities follow varying ceremonies, customs and tradition. Most marriage ceremonies are performed in the presence of a religious leader who officiates the event in a place of worship. Lately, the trend of couples choosing destination weddings or opting for unique marriage ceremonies has become popular. This includes marriages underwater, in parks and on roller coasters, yachts, beaches and hot air balloons. Some couples choose court marriages, also known as a civil ceremony under the supervision of a registrar. Regardless of the music, wedding clothes or feasts, the essence of marriage is similar all over the world.
