The Importance of Bath Safety

Most parents are very knowledgeable when it comes to the dangers associated with having infants around a backyard pool or creek. But sometimes there's another water hazard that is often overlooked. Bath safety is a serious issue that is often lightly touched upon but not to the extent of outdoor water safety.

Few people realize the drowning is a number one cause of death due to injury for children one to four years of age. The accidents do not always occur in swimming pools, lakes or ponds. Many of these treasures occurred in and not perceived safety of the hall what could have been prevented proper bath safety had been followed. Considering that a child can drown in just two inches of water makes us want to look at the bathroom very closely.

Tragically, more than half the children drowned each year in the bathtub. And while there are especially in an made seats designed specifically for bath safety, they also offer a false sense of security. This can be very dangerous because the parent may leave the child unattended for a moment to tend to something else with the mistaken belief that the child is protected in the bath seat.

It only takes seconds for drownings to occur so it is absolutely crucial to keep the infant within arms reach at all times. This is a prudent bath safety approach that can save lives. We all know and that the tub can be a very slippery place and specialized finish its do have the life, but they're not made to the babysitters. Put another way, never, ever leave your baby unattended in the bathtub.

Take care of whenever you need to do before putting the baby in the tub because on the child is in the to you must he or she your undivided attention. If you do have to step away, take the baby with you even if this means getting soaked. This is nothing in light of the big picture because you're a baby's bath safety is the only thing that matters. It's a good practice to keep at least one hand on the baby during most of the bathing process as well.

Bath safety is not specifically for the tub alone. Other dangers lurk in the bathroom as well. Little ones can find trouble in the toilet as well. An infant should never be in a bathroom without adult supervision. This also means that younger children should not supervise the baby in the bathing area, either. Leaving your five-year-old to watch the baby while you answer the phone is incredibly irresponsible and dangerous.
